It is the first winner of Rs.10 lakh CSIR award
New Delhi: The Chennai-based Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has added another feather to its cap. It became the first winner of the Rs.10 lakh CSIR Award for S & T Innovations for Rural Development, instituted earlier this year.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the award here on Tuesday to A.B. Mandal, acting CLRI Director, and A. Subbarama Naidu, head of the Business Process Division at the institution. The citation said the award had been conferred on CLRI for its efforts at designing, developing and delivering a basket of critical technologies, which benefited nearly 1.4 million people engaged in the leather sector in rural areas.
