Education not for Kurava Children

Coimbatore: Notwithstanding the hype and hoopla over Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Education for All); a flagship program of the Centre for achieving universalisation of elementary education, Kurava (gypsy) children are destined to grow up far away from the school premises.

This writer came across five 'Uppu Kurava' families at Chettipalayam, near here recently while they were passing via Coimbatore to their colony in Tirupur.

They were returning after a nine-month trip to states like Kerala and Karnataka for selling 'cleaning powder.'
