Sanskrit Popular at Tirupati Varsity

Tirupati: That the ancient Indian language Sanskrit, is gaining popularity among the younger generation is vouched by the phenomenal rise in number of Students enrolling at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth (RSVP), a deemed university located here.

Debunking the theory that interest in Sanskrit it restricted to priestly classes, there are a number of SC / ST and Muslims studying the ancient language in RSVP.

The student strength in RSVP has gone up by 113 percent since 2001, and the number of girls increased more than four fold from 67 in 2001 to 282 in 2007.
