Deemed varsities seek to start Law Colleges
Chennai: It may appear odd - three Deemed to be Universities (DUs) offering medical, dental and engineering courses, have ventured into starting law colleges!
They are SASTRA in Thanjavur, Savitha in Sriperumbudur taluk and Avinashilingam Institute for Home Sciences in Coimbatore.
However, when they applied for permission to start the law colleges, the Bar Council of India, the statutory body, rejected their plea with a direction to them to obtain no objection certificates (NOCs) from the Tamil Nadu Government and the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University.
