Punjab Boys Tops in Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE)
Among the number of qualified candidates, Mumbai zone topped the list with 2,235 students while Delhi zone was second in number with 1,398 candidates, HS Pandalai, chairman of IIT-JEE-2007 and JM Vasi, deputy director, IIT Mumbai said on Wednesday.
The total number of students who appeared for the JEE this year was 243,029, of which 7,209 are eligible to seek admission to 5,537 seats in IITs at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai and Roorkee, IT-BHU Varanasi and ISMU, Dhanbad, they said. Achin Bansal hails from Kot Kapura, a small town in Punjab, and is the son of a medical practioner. Bansal said he intended to do a computer science course from IIT Mumbai.
